For the latest news about OVM's expansion, click here! Hot Off the Press... Tai Chi Anyone?
Tai Chi is sometimes described as “meditation in motion” because it promotes serenity through gentle movements --- connecting the mind and body by using a group of rhythmical exercises geared toward enhancing balance and muscle strength. Originally developed in ancient China for self-defense, Tai Chi evolved into a graceful form of exercise that’s now used for stress reduction and to help with a variety of other health conditions. Fatima Even, a Physical Therapist with Ohio Valley Manor Home Health, will be leading the classes. The free classes will be offered from 10 to 11 A.M on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Parkview Dining. For additional information or to reserve your spot, call Ohio Valley Manor Home Health at 937-392-0457 or 1-877-313-0457. Although Tai Chi is generally safe, consider talking with your doctor before starting a new program. This is particularly important if you have any problems with your joints, spine, heart or if you have severe osteoporosis. ![]() Ready To Stop Smoking?Join us on Thursday, January 5th, 7-8:30PM, as Dr. Todd Williams and Dr. Michael McHenry share helpful information on proven methods to help you stop smoking, including behavior modification, products, success stories and support. ![]() Rehabilitation... Together!
Ralph and
Joan Weis of Mt. Orab recently completed short-term rehabilitation at OVM and are happy to be back home taking care of each
other. After a recent stroke, Ralph was admitted to receive both Physical and Occupational Therapy in order
to return home independently. Ralph was the primary caregiver to his wife Joan, who survived a stroke nearly
10 years ago. Not long after Ralph was admitted to OVM, he inquired about the possibility of Joan receiving
rehabilitation services along with him.
The Weis’s
were able to remain together and participate in their therapy programs encouraging one another along the way.
“It was great to work with both Ralph and Joan,” commented Nick Colvin, LPTA. “In
order to return home, we needed to make sure Ralph was safe and independent with walking and improve his strength to decrease
his risk of having any falls,” said Colvin. “We also showed Ralph how to help Joan safely stand
and walk.” Ashley Applegate, COTA, also helped educate Joan on safety awareness and becoming independent
in dressing. Ashley worked with Joan on completing light household chores such as laundry.
The Weis’s were very happy with their success at OVM. “It was a big help having rehab,” said Ralph. “It’s important that you do what the therapist tells you to do and to complete the exercises.” Joan agreed and was impressed with the difference that therapy made in her ability to become more self-sufficient. Ralph and Joan Weis will be married 63 years on November 19th. They are excited to be able to return home and share in the celebration of their anniversary with their family. ![]()
